What Katigate is
Katigate is a free Nepali calendar (Nepali patro) website. It shows today's date in Bikram Sambat (BS), Nepal's official calendar, with the matching Gregorian (AD) date, the weekday and the day's events. You can open any month of the current BS year and see the holidays, festivals and tithi for each day, the same as in a printed patro. Katigate also has the daily panchang, rashifal for all twelve rashi, sahit (auspicious dates), and gold and exchange rates. Everything is available in Nepali and English.
Today's Nepali date and panchang
The top of the homepage shows today's Nepali date in Bikram Sambat, the AD date, the weekday, and any festival or public holiday on that day. Below it is the daily panchang. It has five parts: tithi (lunar day), vaar (weekday), nakshatra (lunar mansion), yoga and karana. It also shows paksha, masa, and the sun and moon rashi. People check the panchang before fixing dates for ceremonies, travel and other important work.
Daily rashifal and astrology
Katigate has a new daily rashifal (राशिफल), the Nepali horoscope, for all twelve rashi: Mesh, Brisha, Mithun, Karkat, Singha, Kanya, Tula, Vrischik, Dhanu, Makar, Kumbha and Meen. It is free and needs no account. The Nepali Calendar mobile app can also make a full kundali (birth chart) and do kundali milan (36-gun ashtakoot matching), which families in Nepal use before a marriage.
Festivals, holidays and sahit
The calendar marks Nepal's public holidays and major festivals, including Dashain, Tihar, Holi, Maghe Sankranti, Teej and Buddha Jayanti, so you can plan the year. The sahit (साइत) section lists auspicious days from the panchang for vivah (wedding), bratabandha, pasni, griha pravesh and other ceremonies, for each BS year.
BS to AD date conversion
Nepal uses Bikram Sambat, but passports, visas and foreign documents use the Gregorian calendar, so people often need to convert dates. Katigate's date converter changes any BS date to AD and back.
